Lydia Nell Strough, 100, died Feb. 18, 2013, in McPherson, KS.
She was born on April 29, 1912, in Blue Rapids, KS, the daughter of Clarence and Rosa Gentry. In 1929, she married Owen Lee Strough in the Falls City area. Lydia was an in-home caregiver. She was employed by Dr. Glen Gentry for many years. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ (at that time, Zion Evangelical & Reformed), where she taught Sunday school, was a choir member and belonged to the Women’s Guild. She was an occasional organist and enjoyed picking fresh flowers from her garden for Sunday morning service. Lydia enjoyed playing her accordion in the area nursing homes.
She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne (Strough) Niemeyer, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a step-great-granddaughter, and a great-great-grandson.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Owen Lee Strough, and two sons, David Lee and Dennis.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
