Kathryn Lucille (Wittrock) Thomas went to her eternal home on November 3, 2023. She was born on November 25, 1925 in Richardson County, NE to Reuben and Johanna (Krueger) Wittrock. She was baptized at home on December 27, 1925. Her education began at rural district number 81 and ended upon graduation from Falls City High School in 1943. In July of that year, she took employment as an office clerk at Southeast Nebraska Telephone Company and in January of 1944 she became a bookkeeper at the local Ford agency where she worked until December of 1951.
On December 27, 1951 she married Gilbert Thomas at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Falls City. They then began their life together on a farm north and west of Rulo. In 1983 they retried and moved to their home in Falls City. Gilbert passed away March 21, 2011.
She was the typical farm wife working beside her husband whether walking beans, putting up hay or helping with chores in addition to cooking, sewing and managing a large garden. However, she always allowed time to be active in her church. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Falls City where she was confirmed and married. After her marriage she joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 20th and Towle Street, where she taught Sunday school for thirty years, served as an usher and was a part of the women’s organization for over fifty years where she also served as district chairman for two years. She also spent a number of years as a Pink Lady at the hospital.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, brothers, Fred and Kenneth Wittrock and their wives, sister-in-law, Lydia Poitner and a brother-in-law, Neal and his wife Helen.
She leaves behind her children, Keith and his wife Maryann, Deb Killingsworth and her husband Bob, grandchildren, Molly (Kirby) Killion, Danielle Killingsworth, Whitney (Ben) Santo, Michael Killingsworth, step-grandson, Jason Killingsworth, seven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (20th and Towel St.) with Reverend Jerry Yount officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
Open viewing at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home will be from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
