Douglas Lee Kirkendall, 66, of Falls City, NE, passed away July 1, 2023, at Omaha, NE. He was born on June 11, 1957, to Donald and Sheila (Yoder) Kirkendall in Falls City.
Doug graduated from Falls City High School in 1975, he went on to graduate from Peru State College in 1979 with a degree in Music Education. He then went on to teach for one year in Maryville, MO. He then returned home and started farming with his father and worked for a couple of years in the USDA office in Falls City.
On July 10, 1982, he married Linda Marie Uher and they lived in Falls City for a year before moving to their current home on the family farm.
Doug loved music. His true love of music was first welcomed in high school where he performed in the school’s choir, swing choir and all the musicals under the direction of Mildred Appleoff. He was the church organist and choir director at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th & Towle St.) for many years. He was a member of the Clefsmen from a young age and has been their director for over 10 years. He directed the Palm Sunday Cantata in Humboldt for many years and helped with the Community Carol Singing each Christmas season. He played for the Living Rosary and senior graduation at Sacred Heart for many years.
Doug was an active member of the Falls City Jaycees until he aged out, a member of the Falls City Elks Club, and served on his church council and the Falls City Sacred Heart School Board.
Doug is survived by his wife, Linda of Falls City, sons, Tim and his wife Molly and Kyle and his wife Heather both of Falls City, grandsons, Reid and Chase, sister, Debbie Ebel and her husband David of Verdon, mother-in-law, Gladys Uher, brother-in-law, Charles Uher and his wife Theresa, sister-in-law, Diane Casey and her husband John, uncle, Larry Kirkendall, aunts, Barb Rich and Janet Kirkendall, three nephews and a niece and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, James and Lois Kirkendall and Francis and Gladys Yoder.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th & Towle St.). Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the family home at 65512 707 Road from 5-7:00 PM on Wednesday.
The family has requested no flowers or plants be sent. They prefer memorials to Family Choice for later designation.
