Roy Harold Elms

Roy Harold Elms, 96, of Falls City, Nebraska was born on December 13, 1926 in White County, Arkansas to Roy D. and May (Schugg) Elms.  In 1936, his family moved to Falls City, Nebraska where Roy would receive all of his schooling.  On June 30, 1944, Roy entered active duty for the U.S. Marines and served his country during World War II until being honorably discharged on May 23, 1946.  He was given the Purple Heart award for his service to his country during war time.  After his military service was complete, Roy worked as a crane operator for over twenty years in Greenland and all over the south Pacific building bases and loading naval ships. In 1991, Roy was united in marriage to Epifania “Epie” Colanggo and the couple retired to Falls City in 1992. He enjoyed keeping up on current events, reading the newspaper, drinking coffee, traveling, physical fitness and nutrition, and helping people in anyway he could. 

 

Roy passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Falls City Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Falls City, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of 96 years, 3 months and 11 days.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kelley Barker, granddaughter Andrea Elms and two sisters.

 

Roy is survived by his wife Epie of Falls City, children: Kris Keller of Falls City, Sherie Elms of Falls City, Martin Elms and wife Erynne of Bern, KS; John Elms and wife Nancy of Falls City, grandchildren: Jordan Keller of Rulo, Katie Gilkerson, Zoie Barker, James McGinnis and Colby Elms all of Falls City, Justin Leeper and wife Rachel of Lincoln, Kelsey Lock and husband Travis of Milligan, NE; Seathe Elms of Wichita, KS; Saydee Elms of Kansas City, MO; Zane and Michael Elms of Falls City, 13 great-grandchildren, nephews John (Susie) Sailors and Chuck Sailors of Falls City, and many other relatives and friends.

 

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Falls City. Inurnment will immediately follow at the Steele Cemetery in Falls City with full military honors conducted.

 

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Hall Funeral Chapel, 2403 Harlan Street in Falls City, Nebraska.  A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

 

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
