August Eugene (Gene) Mattan, 69, moved onto a greater place on Monday May 9th 2022. Gene was born on November 22, 1952 to Remi (Augie) and Darlene (Munson)Mattan in Falls City, NE. Raised in Sabetha/Seneca KS area then later moved to Omaha, Ne with his parents. After high school Gene was drafted into the Army in 1973 and discharged in 1976. Gene became a truck driver and spent many miles on the road until his health got the better of him and decided to slow down. He spent many years living in Arizona and Omaha but ended up spending his retirement back in Falls City NE, the place he came into this world. Gene had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and was known to spend a little time with the karaoke machine. He loved to tell jokes, make people laugh and had one heck of a gift of storytelling. Many in Falls City knew that anytime you went to the American Legion then Gene aka Geno was there waiting to hand out hugs and a story or two. Not only was Gene handing out hugs and holding down the chair he held the Vice Commander for 3 years for post 102’s SAL Squadron.
Gene is survived by his four daughters, Dawn Ollin Lewis, Stacy Steward, Mandy Mattan and Brandy Schubert. His grandchildren Erin, Ashley, Laci, Jessica, Kaden, Austin, Angelito, John Michael and Christian. His Siblings, Chuck Mattan, Shirley White, Cathy Mattan, Pat Mattan, John Mattan and Sheila Mattan.
Gene was proceeded in death by his parents Remi and Darlene Mattan, his sister Deloris Mattan and his grandson Hunter.
A celebration of Genes life will be held at the Legion club Saturday the 21st from 3pm to 6 pm in Falls City, NE.
