Marilyn Jane (Bucher) DeJonge

Marilyn Jane (Bucher) DeJonge, 88, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on November 17, 1932, in Pawnee City, Nebraska.  She was the second of seven children born to Leo and Alma (Fruhbauer) Bucher and was baptized on January 22, 1933, by Pastor Alvin Engelmann at the Four-Mile Church south of Humboldt.  Marilyn grew up on the family farm near Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1950.  On November 19, 1950, Marilyn was united in marriage to Ommo DeJonge at the First Presbyterian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska.  To this union three sons, David, Leland and Alan were born.  The couple raised their boys on a farm north of Humboldt where Marilyn was a loving homemaker to her family.  She was a loyal and dedicated member of the Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed needlework, gardening and spending time with her family.  Marilyn was a kind, caring and loving member of the Humboldt community and will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.

Marilyn passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of eighty-eight years, three months and twelve days.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ommo, sons David and Leland DeJonge, a brother Robert “Bob” Bucher, sisters Betty (Dwayne) Kistner and Jannette (Clayton) Boring, daughter-in-law Deana DeJonge, brothers-in-law George (Lucille) DeJonge and Ron Rist, and sisters-in-law Edna DeJonge and Emma Lee DeJonge.

Marilyn is survived by her son Alan DeJonge and wife Joyce of Johnson, NE; grandson Brandon DeJonge and wife Valerie of Juniata, NE; great-grandchildren: Riley and Isabel DeJonge of Juniata, NE;  brothers: Gerald Bucher and wife Shirley of Tuscan, AZ; Gary Bucher and wife Lauralee of Auburn, NE; a sister Sherryn Rist of Humboldt, NE; step-grandchildren: Deanna, Bill, Angela, Michael and Christopher and their families, brothers-in-law: Ed DeJonge of Humboldt, NE; Lammert DeJonge of Humboldt, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastors Tim Llewellyn and Rick Boring officiating. Masks will be a requirement for all those attending services.  A livestream of services will be available on the Wherry Mortuary/Monument Facebook page for those not attending services.  Interment will follow services at The Humboldt Cemetery in Humboldt. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska.

Memorials contributions may go to the Faith Lutheran Church or to family’s choice.
