Marvin Francis Dettmann

Marvin Francis Dettmann, 90, of Falls City, NE, passed away December 17, 2020, from complications of Covid -19.

He was born near Salem, NE, on July 17, 1930, to David and Cara (White) Dettmann. He graduated from Shubert High School with the Class of 1948.

Marvin served his country in the U. S. Army from 1950 until 1953.

He married Vashti Rider of Auburn, NE, in 1956 at Shubert Christian Church.

In 1957 they moved to Wichita, KS and worked at Boing. Marvin was a proud father of two sons and a daughter. After a divorce, Marvin moved to Clearwater, KS, where he worked for Frontier/Vulcan Chemical Company for 30 years, retiring from Vulcan in 1991.

Marvin was a country boy at heart. He enjoyed gardening, sports and the Grand Ole’ Opry. His passion was trail riding and a member of the Chisholm Trail Saddle Club. He and his mule (Chet) traveled many miles on long trail rides. At age 85, he decided to leave the club.

In 2005 he moved to Falls City to be closer to family and friends. Marvin was a devout member of Shubert American Legion Post #222. To all those who knew Marvin, he will be remembered as a loyal and honest friend.

Marvin is survived by his sons, Jeffrey of Maize, KS, Jack of Falls City, sister, Mary Glenda Kesting of Omaha, sister-in-law, Alberta Dettmann of Hiawatha, KS and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Marie, brothers Raymond, Otis, Leonard, David Dee, brother-in-law, Jack Kesting and four sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to Shubert American Legion.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Verdon Cemetery, with Pastor Jerry Yount officiating. Military graveside honors by Shubert American Legion.
