Maxine West Gross, 99, of Falls City, NE, passed away August 15, 2020 at Falls City. She was born February 19, 1921 at Waverly, MO to Albert and Josephine (Noel) Schumaker.
She married Roger West in November of 1938 at Dover, MO. He passed away August of 1972. She married Everett Gross in 1977 at Las Vegas, NV, he passed away in 2007.
Maxine was raised at Cole Camp, Mo and attended school there. When married to Mr. West they made their home in Blackwater, MO. They moved to Falls City in 1950 and she worked at the Falls City Creamery and for Safeway. They moved to Raytown, MO where she worked for K-Mart. When married to Mr. Gross they lived in Independence, MO until his death and she moved to Falls City in 2009 and has lived here since. She was a member of First Christian Church and Eastern Star.
Maxine is survived by her children, Roger, Jr. and his wife Laritta of Falls City, Carol Frederick of Blair, NE, son-in-law, Dennis Mellage of Falls City, sister, Velda Barns of Cole Camp, twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-nine, great-grandchildren and thirty-nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three brothers, five sisters, daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Harry Gibbs, daughter, Judy Mellage, son-in-law, Bob Frederick and a grandson, Mark Frederick.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
Open visitation and viewing will begin on Wednesday afternoon until 7:00 PM and on Thursday until 8:00 PM.
