Donald C. Vice

Donald C. Vice, 93, of Stella, passed away April 26, 2019, at Falls City. He was born January 9, 1926, at Shubert, to William “Glen” and Gladys (Ramsey) Vice.

Don was raised on a farm east of Shubert with nine brothers and sisters. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948. Following his discharged, he worked in the oil fields and did construction for several years. He married Shirley Bragg on October 17, 1954, in Shubert.

He was a field superintendent for Brandt Drilling Company for five years in Wichita, KS. He decided to go back into construction working with Shirley, alongside his children and grandchildren until 2011 when he finally retired at the age of 86. He still liked to go with the boys at sites after that. Next to God and family, his work was his life. Nothing was ever too hard or unimportant for him to do.

Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ was his joy. He was never ashamed to share his love for Christ, he enjoyed praying for the needs of other people. He wrote several songs and loved to sing and play guitar. His favorite song he wrote was “Lord I Know I’m Not Worthy”. His favorite songs to sing with his brother, Rolland was “One Day At A Time Sweet Jesus”, “Without Jesus You Won’t Make Heaven” and “If You Do Not Know Jesus Today, You may Not Have Tomorrow”. He was a member of Good News Assembly Of God Church at Falls City

Don is survived by his wife, Shirley of Stella, sons, Zac and his wife Kathy of Verdon, Montana and his wife Patty of Shubert, Noha and his wife Carrie of Stella, daughters, Christy Berglund of Stella, Zina Dotson and her husband Kenny of Shubert, brothers, Glenn and his wife Maurine of Shubert, Teddy and his wife Colleen of Omaha, NE, Leland and his wife Lorraine of Shubert, Rolland and his wife Iris of Stella, sister, Lila Meyerkorth of Shubert, fourteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Laythan Vice, sisters, Darlene Bednorz, Gladys Lundy, brother-in-law Leon Lundy, Wilda Halligan, brother-in-law Francis Halligan, brother, Howard Vice, and son-in-law, Stanley Berglund. 

His funeral was held on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 10:00 AM at Good News Assembly of God Church with Reverends Tim Boatright and Bob Nazarenus officiating. Interment will be in Harris Cemetery. Military Graveside Honors by Shubert American Legion.

The family received friends on Sunday from 4-6:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
