After a lengthy battle with dementia, the Lord finally took William G. Dougherty, 86, of Lincoln, on Jan. 3, 2019. Bill was born June 10, 1932, to Robert Leo and Angela (Fenlon) Dougherty in Dawson, NE.
He was a 1950 graduate of Falls City High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Airforce at the onset of the Korean War. After preliminary training in the States, he spent two years at Kadena AFB on Okinawa. He returned to the U.S. and finished his four-year military stint in Spokane, WA. He returned to Lincoln, and after a year employment at Lincoln Steel Co., he decided to further his education using the GI Bill and enrolled at UNL.
Bill and Mary Ann Hoy were married at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Falls City on Sept. 27, 1958, and made their home in Lincoln. Upon graduation from UNL in 1960 he was employed at Mail Advertising Corp in Lincoln. The Co. was renamed Metromail Corp., and Bill achieved the position of Marketing Director. He retired after 35 years of service. Bill was an avid golfer for many years until his health would no longer permit. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Kevin, and friend Carol Hyatt, Patrick and Nadine, Michael and Rachel, Timothy and LuAnn all Lincoln; niece, Cathy (Murphy) Heinzelman and Denny, Falls City; grandchildren, Matthew, Dr. Joseph both Omaha, Jacob, Megan, Tyler. Olivia, Juliana, and Katherine, all Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and brother in law Mary Margaret and Jim Murphy, Nephew Larry Murphy, brother in law and sister in law Bill and Lorraine (Tootie) Hoy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at 10:00 A. M. Cathedral of the Risen Christ 3500 Sheridan Blvd . A viewing was held on Sunday 9-9. Burial was held at Falls City Catholic Cemetery on Monday at 3:00. A rosary was held on Sunday at 7:00 P.M. Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home 4040 A Street. Memorial may be left to Pius X, Pink Sisters, Cathedral School
