Wallace “Wally” Baker

Wallace “Wally” Baker, 81, of Verdon, NE, passed away November 1, 2018. He was born December 6, 1936 at West Salem, WI to Bernhard and Bernice (Lovell) Baker. 

Wally enlisted in the U. S. Air Force on January 6, 1955 at Minneapolis, MN. He served as a mechanic for the 98th Bomb Wing earning a Good Conduct Medal. He served last at the 98th Field Maintenance Squadron at Strategic Air Command. He was honorably discharged on November 5, 1958 at Lincoln Air Force Base, NE.

Wally attended country school in Mindoro, WI and following his schooling he worked as a farm hand until enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in Lincoln, NE where he met and married his wife. 

He married Karlene Bloom on September 12, 1958 at Lincoln, NE. She passed away November 14, 2012

They established their home in Verdon when married and he worked as a mechanic at Hunkers Garage until 1968 when he became employed by the local COOP until 1998 when he retired due to his health. He then helped several area farmers and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Verdon Christian Church.

Wally is survived by his son, Dudley and his wife Teresa of Beatrice, NE, daughter, Crys DeJonge and her husband, Dell of Humboldt, NE, brother, Philip and his wife Elnor of West Salem, sister, Elnor (Dick) Boll of Epworth, IA, five grandchildren: Sarah Meese and her husband, Jeff of Lincoln, NE, Abbie O’Dell and her husband Joe of Bedford, IA, Jerrod Lippold of DuBois, NE, Jeramiah Lippold and special friend, Stephanie of Fremont, NE and Jorja DeJonge of Humboldt, NE six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment will be in Verdon Cemetery with Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-6:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
