Albert William Rieschick passed from this life on Monday, April 16, 2018, in Hastings, Nebraska. He was born to A. W. Rieschick and Christina Tubach Rieschick in Falls City, Nebraska, on September 26, 1916.
Services will be Monday, April 23, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 20th and Towle, Falls City, NE at 11 am. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Steele Cemetery, Falls City, NE.
Albert attended school in Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1936. He also completed a two-year agricultural short course from the University of Nebraska.
During World War II, Albert was inducted into the United States Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on August 20, 1942. On February 15, 1946, he received an Honorable Discharge from the Army at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
He married Margie Watton in Hiawatha, Kansas, on March 27, 1946, and made their home on a farm, two miles northeast of Falls City. He and Margie farmed and raised cattle on this property for 52 years. He managed numerous family farms in his later years of life. He was a co-founder and co-owner of Pigs Unlimited Corporation. He retired from farming in 1986 and they moved into town in December of 1997.
Albert W. Rieschick was baptized at the Bauman Church, now known as United Zion Church of Christ, northeast of Falls City. On April 9, 1933, he was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 20th and Towle Streets in Falls City. He would later serve as president of the Church Council at St. Paul’s Church. He was also a member of District 47 and 48 School Boards.
After retirement, Al and Margie loved to travel throughout the United States and Europe. They particularly enjoyed visiting Alaska which they did several times. Albert was a craftsman with woodworking and was a wonderful gardener.
He was known affectionately by his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Al,” and they have wonderful memories of coming to the farm during their summer vacations. His grandchildren called him “Grampa Al.” He was known for his generosity to his family. While he had a somewhat quiet manner, there was no question his mind was active and aware until the end of his 101 years.
Albert W. Rieschick was preceded in death by his parents, A. W. and Christina Tubach Rieschick; his wife, Margie; and his siblings, Martha, Hulda, Ella and Robert.
He is survived by his two daughters: Susan Elaine Brown, her spouse, Arlen Brown of Hastings, their daughter, Geri Renae Pagel, spouse Jason Pagel of Grand Island, NE, and their two children, Noah Arlen and Ellie Rebecca Pagel; also daughter, Jane Ellen Peterson, spouse Scott Peterson of Yakima, WA, their two children: Kristina Ellen Taylor, spouse Derek Taylor, their two children, Brynn Ellen Taylor and Nolan Donald Taylor of Lake Stevens, WA; and Karl Richard Peterson, spouse Hannah Lindberg of Stockholm, Sweden, and their children, Saga Olivia Lindberg Peterson and Finn Albert Lindberg Peterson.
