JOE HEINEMAN

Joe Heineman, 88, formerly of Hasings, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Southlake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center, Lincoln, NE. Joe was born March 19, 1928, in Verdon, Nebraska to Roy Russell and Myrtle Lena (Everling) Heineman.
He graduated from Verdon High School and Lincoln School of Commerce. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 until 1952 as a staff sergeant. He married Mary Alice Smith on June 28, 1953, in Verdon; she preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2008.  
Joe was President of Pawnee County Bank and owned Brothers IV Restaurant in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Joe and Mary moved to Hastings in 1993 from Big Springs, Nebraska, where they managed a hotel. After moving to Hastings they managed the Midlands Lodge. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include: children; Douglas K. (Carol) Heineman, of Lexington, NE, John R. Heineman and significant other Charles Williams, of Lincoln, Rex G. Heineman and Craig Hiles – Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Erin M. Heineman and significant other Tom Coviello, of Lexington, Kyle D. (Monica) Heineman, of Johnson Lake, NE; sisters-in-law, Irene Heineman, Wahoo, NE, Elaine Heineman, and Opal Frye, both of Falls City.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Alice Heineman; son, Kevin; twin sister, Joan Nixon; sister, Betty Duncan; and brothers, Robert, Dale, Roy Jr., Dick, Ed, Lee, and Jean.     
Services were held on, Saturday, March 18, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings with Rev. Greg Allen-Pickett officiating.  Memorials may be given to Kevin C. Heineman Memorial Forensics Scholarship at Hastings College.  Visitation was Friday, March 17, 2017.
