DARREL KOSO

Darrel J. Koso, 84, of Rulo, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at Falls City. The son of John and Nettie (Flaherty) Koso, he was born on Dec. 14, 1931 east of Barada.
    Darrel enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 29, 1953 at Omaha, and served in Korea, earning a National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 31, 1954 at Ft. Carson, CO.
    He married JoAnn E. Scheitel on June 3, 1956 at Zion United Church of Christ.
    Darrel attended rural school and following his discharge he returned to the Falls City area. When the couple married, they established their home in the Falls City and Rulo area. He was employed at the Margrave Ranch, Frontier and Commodore Homes and Sunset Trailers. He later was the owner/operator of Koso’s Kash and Karry. He also worked as a painter at Rolfes Manufacturing for numerous years. After his retirement from Rolfes, he engaged in farming and raising Angus cattle.
    Darrel was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Past Master of Masonic Lodge #9, Sesostris Shriners, Past Worthy Patron of Humboldt Eastern Star Chapter #234 OES, FC Elks Lodge #963, and Past President of the Richardson County Historical Society. He coached Big Girls’ softball, as well as the Frontier Homes baseball team, bowled and liked to play horseshoes. His favorite past time was fishing, especially on Table Rock Lake near Branson, MO. He was affectionately known to many of his family and neighbors in Barada as “Junior.”
    He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of Rulo; son, Mic (Colleen) Koso, of Falls City; daughters, Christi (Galen) Heitshusen, of Uehling, NE, Connie (Chuck) Simmonds, of San Antonio, TX, and Cathi Koso, of FC; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
    Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald “Jack,” and Dale; sisters, Minnie German, Vivian Walters and one in infancy; and a grandson, Chad Simmonds.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at Zion United Church of Christ with Rev. Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment will be in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery. Military graveside honors by the Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, Falls City.
