JOHN L. MOYER

John Lloyd Moyer, 63, of rural DuBois, Nebraska was born on September 2, 1952, in Humboldt, Nebraska to Walter and Willa (Richardson) Moyer.  He was raised in Humboldt where he attended public school and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1970.  After graduating, John attended the University of Nebraska for two years before being drafted into the United States Army.  He proudly served his country from August of 1972 until being honorably discharge in August of 1974.

On June 22, 1973, John was united in marriage to Nancy Jean Farwell at The Christian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska.  To this union three children, Joshua, Lucas, and Kelly were born.  John and Nancy lived in Fort Hood, Texas, while John finished his military service then lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, for two years before returning to Humboldt in 1976.  John worked as a carpenter until he began farming in 1981.  John also worked at SKF in Seneca, Kansas, for 15 years.  He was a member of the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269 since 1978, served on the Richardson County Extension Board for 6 years (president for 4 years), HTRS School Board from 1994-2002, HTRS Foundation Board, and received the NRD Farm Soil Conservation Award in 1994.  John was a lifetime member of The Christian Church-DOC in Humboldt where he was baptized and served as elder. He was also a member of Gideons International.

John’s greatest loves were his faith, family, and farming.  He enjoyed the Rocky Mountains, being a good steward of God’s land, and “allways” said he was a lucky man.  John was selfless, a man of integrity, and proud to have served his country.  John was received into Heaven on 11/11/15 at 11 PM at his home in rural DuBois, Nebraska surrounded by his loving family having reached the earthly age of sixty-three years, two months, and nine days. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Moyer and a nephew Adam Gaede.

John is survived by his loving wife Nancy Moyer of rural DuBois, NE; sons: Josh Moyer and his wife Alison of Bennet, NE; Luke Moyer and his wife Brandy of Gretna, NE; daughter Kelly Godfrey and her husband Matthew of Papillion, NE; grandchildren: Andrew, Emily, Brogan, Taryn, and Graham; a mother Willa Moyer of Humboldt, NE; sisters: Betty Van Winkle and her husband Jerry of Beatrice, NE; Janice Desmond and her husband Mike of Ozawkie, KS; Sharon Mackey of Falls City, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015, at The Christian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.

Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. at the mortuary.

 

Interment will be at the DuBois Cemetery in DuBois, Nebraska with full military honors conducted by the Harvey-Mann Legion Post #269 and the Nebraska Army Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
