MILDRED RIESCHICK

Mildred Rieschick, 90, of Falls City, passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 at Falls City. She was born on June 30, 1925 at Peru to the late Elmer and Blanche (Markem) Gilliland.
    Mildred was raised at Peru and Falls City, graduating from Falls City High School in 1943. Following graduation she taught school for two years before marrying Melvin Rieschick on July 5, 1945 at Hiawatha, KS. When married the couple established their home on a farm northeast of Falls City and she was a farm wife and homemaker until earning a teaching certificate. She began teaching in rural schools. In 1971 she earned her teaching degree from Peru State Teachers College and then taught at Sacred Heart and then Falls City Middle School, where she retired in 1987. Following retirement she and Melvin did antiquing and traveling to shows buying and selling antiques with family accompanying them on many trips.
    Mildred was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th and Towle Streets), Falls City Does Drove and Business and Professional Women, all of Falls City, as well as a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and General Society of Mayflower Descendants.
    She is survived by her husband, Melvin, of Falls City; son, David (Sue) Rieschick, of Lake Jackson, TX; daughter, Diana (Carl) Vogt, of Camdenton, MO; sister, Barbara (Ralph) Asdell, of Wildwood, MO; daughter-in-law, Patricia Rieschick, of Falls City; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
    Mildred was preceded in death by her son, Dennis; sister, Mary Lou Peltier; and a granddaughter, Christina, in infancy.
    Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th and Towle Streets), with Rev. Andrew Chavanak officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
