ROY E. STOKES

Roy Edward Stokes, 94, of Harlem, GA, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at Doctors Hospital at Harlem.  He was born on May 1, 1921 at Barada to the late Ross and Elizabeth Stokes.

He was an U.S. Army Master Sergeant during WWII and had worked for over 38 years at Fort Gordon in Post Engineers Heating and Air. Roy had a strong work ethic from his youth on the Nebraska farm. After retirement, he continued to help families in the Harlem area repairing things. He enjoyed his pets and loved working in his yard and gardening. Mr. Stokes was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Roy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn N. Stokes; one daughter, Betty (stokes) Mixon; two sons, Jerry (Lenior) Stokes, and Gregg (Joette) Stokes; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ervin Stokes; and two sisters, Dorothy Schawang and Mearle Sailors.

Graveside services were held Friday, June 12, 2015, in Harlem Memorial Cemetery.
