CHERYL (LACEY) HAYES

Cheryl Ann (Lacey) Hayes, 59, of Seward, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at her home. She was born Nov. 7, 1955 in Pawnee City, the daughter of Clifford Lacey, Jr. and Lois Elizabeth (Broady) Lacey.

Cheryl was baptized on Jan. 8, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Johnson, and confirmed on March 22, 1970 at Faith Lutheran Church in Humboldt. She was a 1974 graduate of Humboldt High School. On Sept. 28, 1974, Cheryl was united in marriage to David L. Hayes in Humboldt and their marriage was blessed with two sons, Ryan and Drew.

In 1990, Cheryl, Dave and their sons moved to Seward, where Cheryl spent the past 25 years working for the Seward School District.

Cheryl loved the outdoors, traveling, working in the yard and her flower gardens; but most of all, she loved her husband, children, grandchildren and her entire family. Cheryl taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was a Cub Scout Leader. She also served on the Foster Care Review Board and as a CASA Volunteer.

Survivors include her husband, Dave, of Seward; sons, Ryan (Andrea) Hayes and their children, Ashlyn and Logan, all of North Platte, and Drew Hayes, of Alliance; her father, Cliff Lacey, Jr., and special friend, Theoma Pope, of Sterling; sisters, Pam (Tom) Usher, of Grand Island, Carol (Roger) Glathar, of Humboldt, and Chris (Joel) Geyer and Sandy (Bryan) Hanson, both of Lincoln; mother-in-law, Jerry (Hayes) Beem, of Falls City; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (Jim) Huettner, of Verdon, Sue (Lee) Alders, of Kansas City, MO; brothers-in-law, Gene Hayes, of Chandler, AZ and Keith (Snooks) Hayes, of Falls City; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Lacey; step-mother, Karen (Haughton) Lacey; father-in-law, Lloyd C. Hayes; stepfather-in-law, Clarence Beem; and her grandparents, Clifford, Sr. and Helen (Illyess) Lacey and Arnold and Marie (Reeg) Broady.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, with Pastor Rob Corum officiating. Graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Humboldt Cemetery.
