Dunekacke soon to be Humboldt Mayor

Humboldt Mayor Mike Riley is expected to offer his letter of resignation at the 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7 City Council meeting. Riley was first appointed to the position of Mayor then elected to the office in 2014. He will be moving from the area for business. 

It is expected that Humboldt City Council President Crystal (Ellis) Dunekacke will be appointed to the position of Mayor. 

Crystal is a Humboldt native and 2002 graduate of HTRS. She has a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education from Peru State College and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration – Public Management from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

She has been on the Humboldt City Council since January 2011, when she was appointed to finish Jim McKim’s term. She has also served as city representative to the Community Foundation since July 2012.

Crystal currently resides in Humboldt with her husband, Taylor, who is a teacher and coach at HTRS and they have two young sons. She is employed at C.J. Foods at Pawnee City as the Accounting Specialist.
