JOAN L. DOUGLAS

Joan Louise (Kerner) Douglas, 83, of Humboldt, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt. She was born to Anton and Agnes (Neukirch) Kerner on May 21, 1931 near Vesta, NE.  

Joan graduated from Tecumseh High School with the Class of 1948.  

On Jan. 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to William Ray Douglas at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Tecumseh. To this union three children – Bev, Cathy and Bill – were born. Joan worked as a telephone operator in Tecumseh before moving to Humboldt in 1960. She and Ray owned Pawnee Transfer Co., where Joan was office manager for many years until retirement. Joan’s passion was her flowers. She loved all types, colors and varieties of flowers and was especially proud of her garden of flowers around her home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eunice Evans and Alice Eckles, and a brother, Tony Kerner.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ray Douglas, of Humboldt; children, Bev (Danny) Keller, and Cathy (John) Schroeder, all of Lincoln, and Bill (Brenda) Douglas, of Humboldt; five grandchildren, Keri Keller and Kory (Lindsey) Keller, all of Lincoln, Jenny Schroeder, of Omaha, Britt Douglas, of Ft. Worth, TX, and Blake (Kendra) Douglas, of Humboldt; great-grandchildren,  MyKinzie and Braedyn Keller; sister-in-law, Rose Kerner, of Tecumseh; brothers-in-law, Bob Evans, of Marysville, KS, Bill Eckles, of Lincoln; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.   

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson, with Fr. Kenneth Hoesing officiating.Visitation was Friday, April 3, at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt.Interment in the Humboldt Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Colonial Acres Nursing Home.
