KAREN L. SCHMIDT

Karen L. Schmidt, 73, of Falls City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln. She was born on May 3, 1941 in Rulo to Arthur L. and Edith Lucille (Raney) Nissen.

After graduating high school, Karen was united in marriage to Paul Schmidt on Aug. 1, 1959 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Falls City.

Karen did many things in her life – she baby sat for over 100 children, cooked at Camp Rulo, the bus depot and Stephenson’s Hotel, worked at the FC Creamery, the Missouri Beef Packers, Inspiration House and Old Time Wash Board Laundromat; she cleaned homes, hung wallpaper, painted and always helped the handicapped.

Karen enjoyed the Bible and studies, gardening, flowers, home decorating, sewing, fishing and camping. She cherished her church family and church gatherings.

Paul and Karen had eight different foster children that they cared for over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jerry, James and Dennis Nissen; sisters, Diana Nissen and Ruth Ann Nissen; and her husband, Paul.

Karen is survived by her sisters, Rosalie (Don) Stokes, of Falls City, and Norma Torkelson, of Robinson, KS; brother, David (Lisa) Nissen, of Orange, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 29, at the Good News Assembly of God Church in FC. Burial followed at Steele Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday at Hall Funeral Home in FC.
