Janet S. McKinsey, 79, of Verdon, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at Falls City. She was born Feb. 23, 1935 at Lincoln, to the late Wiley and Helen (Schafer) Miner.
She married Gene Schernecke in 1962; he passed away in 1964. She married Dean McKinsey on Aug. 14, 1982 at Verdon.
Janet was raised in the Verdon area and graduated from Verdon High School in 1952. She attended Wesleyan University at Lincoln and transferred to Kansas State University, graduating in 1956. Following graduation, she worked for Sears in Kansas City and then moved to Topeka. She moved to New Jersey and worked for an insurance company before joining her father in the turf business, becoming manager of Princeton Turf Farms.
She returned to Verdon in 1982 and when married the couple established their home in Verdon, where she helped on the farm and raised a large garden.
Janet was a lifetime member of the Richardson County Humane Society.
She is survived by her husband.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.
Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, of Falls City, is in charge of arrangements.
