Robert Richard “Bob” Lanphier, 75, of Cabool, MO, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at the Harry Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born in Scottsbluff on Jan. 29, 1939 to Ralph and Lois Lanphier and raised on the family farm his father started west of Lingle, WY. There his family raised a variety of crops, including potatoes and alfalfa, as well as sheep and cattle. After he graduated from Lingle High School, Bob served in the Air Force at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA, a jet mechanic. After serving, he returned to the farm, met Judith Ann Heineman of Falls City and they were married in 1965.
During the following years, Bob took on a variety of professions while residing in Wyoming, Colorado, Washington, Idaho, Wisconsin and Missouri. Most of his work took advantage of his mechanical and agricultural experience to reclaim and improve distressed properties or equipment for resale. He had a knack for spotting good value as well as learning and mastering new lines of business. He frequently focused on recycling automobiles and their components, and in, 1996, he was awarded a patent for a process to manufacture rolled roofing from recycled tires.
Bob is survived his wife, Judi; children, Dawn Lanphier (Michael) Simon, Robert “Rob” (Margaret) Lanphier and Daniel (Crystal) Lanphier; two granddaughters, Hazel Lanphier and Evelyn Lanphier; brothers, Raymond and Gary. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Ralph Wilbur “Bill” Lanphier.
A funeral service was held in Columbia on Oct. 5, 2014 and he is interred with his wife’s family at St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in Verdon.
