JANICE L. STONEBARGER

Janice L. Stonebarger, 77, of Highland, KS, died Friday morning, Sept. 12, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, MO.

Janice was born at Sparks, KS, July 5, 1937, one of 17 children born to the late Wayne and Margaret King Collins and had lived in the Sparks-Highland area most of her life. She grew up in Sparks, where she attended school, and worked hard to earn her GED at the age of 64. Janice worked a number of years for Highland schools as a cook prior to cooking at the Highland nursing home.

She married William “Bill” Stonebarger on Oct. 18, 1951 at Hiawatha, KS. Bill and Janice raised five children: The late Charles Ray Stonebarger, Richard Wayne Stonebarger, and Marilyn Jane (Dean) McVicker, both of Highland, Tony Curtis Stonebarger, of Ford City, MO, and William “Les” (Ree) Stonebarger, of Auburn; 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are eight brothers: Len Collins, of St. Joseph, MO, Dan Collins, Tim Collins, Claude “Butch” Collins, all of Highland, Bill Collins and Randy Collins, both of Hiawatha, Ed Collins, of Troy, Rick Collins, of Wathena, KS; six sisters, Barb Edie, of Highland, Pat Pfaffly, of Kansas City, MO, Margaret Brassfield, of Hiawatha, Sue Hall, of Powhattan, Kathy Campbell, of Fanning, and Anita Rounds, of Lexington, MO.

Janice was also preceded in death by her husband; a grandson Jason Stonebarger; two brothers, Dennis Collins, and David Collins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, with Rev. Jonathan Garlock, Sr., of King City, MO, officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Robinson.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Monday and the family will meet from 6-8 p.m.
