Philip Harry Stafford, age 72 of Albia, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Manor Care Health Services in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Philip was born July 11, 1942, on the family farm in Brompton, Iowa to John Elwood and Irene (DeLong) Stafford. He graduated from Albia High School in 1960. He married Lila Mae Kuhlman on April 12, 1971 in Falls City, Nebraska.
Philip managed a country club in both Albia, IA and Falls City, NE before working as an electrician at Meisner Electric and later going to work for Unico at Cargill, in Eddyville before retiring in 2007. Philip enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
Philip is survived by his wife, Lila; a son, Mark (Jayne) Stafford of Knoxville, TN; a granddaughter, Lindsey (Wade) Jankowski; 2 great grandkids, Jake and Kenna Jankowski; two sisters, Rosalie Hughes of Moravia, IA, and Karen Carter of Windsor Heights, IA; two brothers, Thomas (Julie) Stafford of Albia, IA and Jeffrey (Jean) Stafford of Shreveport, LA; and eight nieces and nephews, Sandra Lewis, Steven Carter, Cynthia Carter, Jill Finneman, John Stafford, Josh Stafford, Susan Stafford and Braden Oliver. Philip is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brad and Kim Oliver Falls City, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Elwood and Irene Stafford; and a sister in infancy, Priscilla Ann Stafford.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Richard Grimes officiating. Per Philips request, his body has been cremated and a private family burial will be held at a later date at Eslinger Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. With Philip’s family present.
