MERNA N. KIRKENDALL

Merna N. Kirkendall, 94, of Falls City, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 at Falls City. She was born July 17, 1920 at Barada to the late Tillman and Bessie (Ramer) Vice.

She married Roy E. Kirkendall on April 15, 1939 at Topeka, KS. He passed away on July 19, 2014.

Merna was raised in the Barada and Shubert areas. The couple established their home in Barada when married and later moved to Verdon, then to Falls City in 1959.Merna had been employed at Falls City Creamery, Baker’s Bakery, Hinky-Dinky Grocery Store, The Vogue and Brown Shoe Fit Co.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Falls City.

Merna is survived by her sons, Ronald (Janyce) Kirkendall, of Falls City, and Daniel Kirkendall, of Branson, MO; daughters, Connie (Leonard) Brown, and Cheryl McCann, both of Falls City; son-in-law, Richard McCann, of Big Lake, MO; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Wayne, Worth “Dude,” Harold, Tillman, Venton; sisters, Avis Shafer and Jeannine Shafer; grandchildren, Michelle Peterson and Rodney Worth McCann.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Falls City, with Rev. Fay Ann Blaylock and Rev. Paul Weinert officiating; interment in the Harris Cemetery, Barada.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, of Falls City.
