BILL L. MILAM

Founder, owner and retired operator of Milam’s Greenhouse in Falls City, Bill L. Milam, of Falls City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 at Falls City. He was 83.

Bill married Shirley (Majors) at Auburn on March 11, 1956 and in 1963 purchased Milam’s Greenhouse in Auburn. In 1974, he purchased Simanton and Pence Greenhouse in Falls City and it became Milam’s Greenhouse. Bill retired in 1999, leaving his sons, Steve and Max, to run the family business.

He was born April 3, 1931 at Auburn to the late Lewis and Mami (Avey) Milam. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1949 and was honorably discharged in 1953.

Bill graduated high school at Eudora, AR in 1949 and following his discharge he returned to Auburn and the couple established their home in Auburn when married. After moving to Falls City, in 1978 he was instrumental in bringing Lil’ Duffer to Falls City.

He was a member of Falls City Elks Lodge #963, VFW and American Legion of Falls City and served on the Falls City Hospital Board.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Falls City; sons, Steve (Joni), and Max (Michelle), of Falls City; brothers, Bob (Penny), of Chula Vista, CA, Jon (Lynne), of Stockbridge, GA; sisters, Vivian Nordbrock, of Auburn, Marcene Sterkel, of Ft. Collins, CO, Shirley Ann Hayes, of McAllen, TX; grandchildren, Staci (Derick) Deger, of Lincoln, Judd (Jamie), Jace, Hayley, Hannah and Noah Milam, all of Falls City; great-grandchildren, Drake and Gage Deger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Keith.

A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Rodger Good officiating. The family will receive friends on from 7-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the funeral home.
