Alta Mayola (Mez) “Brownie” Fugett, 85, of Beatrice, died at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center on Thursday, June 12, 2014. She was born Dec. 26, 1928 at rural Falls City, baptized on Jan. 20, 1929 and confirmed April 2, 1944 at St. John Lutheran Church near Falls City.  

    She graduated from Falls City High School in 1945. She attended Peru State College and received her teacher’s certificate in 1945. She taught for seven years at Fisher, Argo and Cotcher rural schools. She married Ernest Fugett on Dec. 26, 1961 at the Richards-Gebaur AFB in Missouri. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Beatrice and had taught Sunday School. She enjoyed gardening, canning, watching tennis and baseball and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

    Survivors include five sons, Ronald Vogele and wife Carolyn, of Wymore, Stephen Fugett and wife Kimberly, of Beatrice, Randy Fugett, of Holmesville, Frederick Fugett and Kelly Little, of Hallam, and Timothy Fugett and wife Stephanie, of Beatrice; 12 grandchildren, Hannah Zimmerling, Emily Shockley, Jeremy Engelman, Amber Oakes, Anthony Fugett, Andrew Fugett, Jordan Bender, Trenten Fugett, Jacob Fugett, Jaden Fugett, Bryn Fugett and Sydney Fugett; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Lela Wenz; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Margareta Reschke Mez; her husband, Ernest, who died on Feb. 25, 2014, twin granddaughters, Aliya and Aubrey Fugett; three sisters, Alma Hunker, Gertrude Wenz and Wilma Scholl.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A memorial has been established to Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice Program and Beatrice Good Samaritan.  

    The body will lie in state at Fox Funeral Home from 8 a.m. Monday until time of services on Wednesday. A guestbook for signatures and messages of condolence is available online at
