Richardson County Deputy Sheriff Joshua Nincehelser was involved in a shooting incident at approximately 2:00 a.m. on June 9, 2014 near Humboldt, Nebraska.
Deputy Nincehelser was on routine patrol when he encountered a silver or tan Dodge Neon stopped on 717 road approximately 1/4 mile west of Highway 75. When Deputy Nincehelser approached the vehicle to ask if the driver needed assistance, the driver did not speak english. As Deputy Nincehelser was attempting to communicate with the driver, the Hispanic male produced a silver semi-automatic pistol and fired several shots at Deputy Nincehelser. One of the shots struck the upper arm of Deputy Nincehelser and at least two bullets struck his patrol vehicle. Deputy Nincehelser returned fire with his service pistol and the vehicle fled west on 717 road in Richardson County.
Deputy Nincehelser attempted to pursue the vehicle, but after a few miles he realized he had been wounded and couldn’t see due to damage to his windshield being shattered by at least 3 bullets.
Law enforcement agencies throughout the region are seeking the suspect vehicle. If anyone sees a vehicle matching the description or has any information about the driver they are asked to contact the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office right away at 402-245-2479 or the Nebraska State Patrol at 402-471-4545. The individual being sought after is considered extremely dangerous, and members of the public should not attempted to apprehend him or contact him under any circumstances.
