Max L. Roland

Max L. Roland, 78, of Falls City, passed away Feb. 13, 2014 at Falls City. He was born Sept. 30, 1935 at Blue Springs to the late Artie and Bena (DeVries) Roland.

On Dec. 2, 1956 he married Norma Lee Godemann at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, north of Falls City.

Max moved to Falls City with his parents and family at the age of two to a farm nine miles north of Falls City. He attended District l7 for seven years and one year at St. Paul’s Parochial school, six miles north of Falls City. He married his grade school sweetheart and following their marriage the couple lived in Lincoln for one year.

In 1958 they moved to a farm one-half mile south of Straussville, where he farmed for 26 years. In 1984 the couple moved to Gretna, where he was employed as an over the road truck driver, retiring from R&R Express of Falls City in 1997 due to ill health. In 2003 they returned back to Falls City.

Member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, north of Falls City, having been baptized and confirmed on March 10, 1949.He served as President of Lutheran Laymen’s League of Zone 5 and Zone 10 and President of SE Nebraska Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. He also served on the Richardson County Historical Society Board and at the time of his death was Vice-President of the SE Nebraska Lutherans for Life.

Max is survived by his wife, Norma Lee, of Falls City; son, Mark (Tish), of Cape Coral, FL; daughter, Nancy (Scott) Holder, of Ft. Calhoun; grandchildren, Doug Roland, of Tampa, FL, Dan Roland, of Lincoln, Kristen Holder, of Seward, Kayla Holder, of Fort Calhoun; sister-in-Laws, Winifred Roland, Buzzards Bay, MA, Evelyn Roland, of Seneca, NE, Norma Roland, of Falls City, Audrey Roland, of Hiawatha, KS, Ruby Roland, of Kansas City, MO and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Roland; brothers, Gene, Dale, Roy, Harry, Harlan; sisters, Ruth Chisholm and Lenora Linsenmeyer; brothers-in-law, Verlan Chisholm and Ernest Linsenmeyer; and a sister-in-law, Vera (Waton) Roland.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, north of Falls City, with Rev. Daniel Gifford officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Lutheran Home Ministries or Family Choice
