Lady Tigers win first round game at district tourney

Falls City High’s softball team was 9-1 winners over Johnson County Central Thursday morning in their first round game of the Class C District 1 tournament, which is being held Thursday and Friday in Syracuse.

FC jumped out to an early lead on JCC by scoring five runs in the first three innings

A two-run triple by senior Brooke Scheitel and a two-run double by junior Sydney Armbruster during the second inning fueled the Lady Tiger’s offense early.

Senior Kirstyn Buchholz got the win for the FC thanks to six strikeouts. Buchholz allowed one earned run on five hits and no walks over six innings.

FC plays again Thursday at 1:30 against the winner of Syracuse and Conestoga. A win there and FC doesn’t play again until noon on Friday. A loss at 1:30 drops FC into the loser’s bracket where they would have to play one game Thursday at 3:15.

Friday’s games begin at noon and conclude at 3:30 with the district championship. The winner receives an automatic berth into the state tournament to be held in Hastings Oct. 16, 17 and 18.
