Four Lady Tiger runners earned medals and finished in the top 15 to propel Falls City High to a third-place finish at last Thursday’s Nebraska City Invite. The boys had two in the top 12 and finished fourth.
Krystal Samqua, a junior, led the charge with time of 22:58 to finish eighth, followed by sophomores Lainey Larsen (23:07, 11th), Lauren Bierman (24:03, 12th) and freshman Cheyenne Doval (24:47, 15th).
Freshman Kyle Leafty had the boys best finish with a time of 18:22, earning himself a medal with an eighth-place finish. Senior Brandon Gibson finished 12th with a time of 19:01, followed by sophomore Anthony Baker (20:46, 21st), freshman Brett Black (21:00, 24th), senior Justin Doerr (22:05, 29th) and sophomore Blake Black (22:18, 30th).
“Krystal was the third different leader (this season) for the girls’ team,” FCHS head coach Cody Hawley said. “With three different girls leading the team, the potential is very high coming into the ending stretch for a berth to the state meet in Kearney.”
Freshman Matthew Rathje (23:47), sophomore Christian Bennett (23:48) and junior Elizabeth Oliver (34:59) ran for the Tiger junior varsity at Thursday’s meet.
Dylan Leafty, an eighth grader at FC Middle School, won the junior high portion of the meet with a time of 8:55. Other FCMS runners included: Randee Glander, 10:04; Zach Petry, 10:38; Jacie Fischer, 13:22; Brody Bindle, 13:26. Coach Hawley said the junior high results were not fully complete at the conclusion of the meet.
The Tiger runners competed at the Rock Port (MO) Invite yesterday and travel to Syracuse this Friday. The Falls City Invitational is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. next Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Falls City Country Club.
