Tiger golfers win HTRS Invite

Three Falls City High golfers finished in the top five and four medaled in the Tigers first place finish at Humboldt-TR-S Invitational played in chilly, damp conditions at Kirkman’s Lakeview Golf Course on Thursday, Apr. 9th.

Falls City combined to shoot a team score of 338, besting Johnson County Central by 25 strokes. Hosts HTRS were fourth with a team total of 432.

Seniors Brandt Vice and Wade Witt each went out with 43 and came in with 40 for their rounds of 83 and finished one stroke back of top medalist Josh Crane of Johnson County Central. Vice earned second place, officially, on a scorecard playoff. Brody Weinmann, also a senior, finished fifth with a 41-43 – 84 total and sophomore Weston Witt was seventh with 45-43 – 88.

Brody Weinmann’s 9-hole score of 45 was Falls City’s best and earned him eighth place at the Hiawatha Invitational played April 5th. Collectively, the Tiger golfer’s struggled a bit compared to their first two outings of the spring and combined to shoot 197 for a fourth-place finish.

Holton (KS) cruised to a 26-stroke victory over second-place Maur Hill (KS) and Sabetha (KS) was third with a 186.

Holton’s Tavin Dugan carded a 1-under 35 to take home top medalist honors and Holton finished with five golfers in the top-10.

Brandt Vice (48), Wade Witt (50) and Dakota Pentecost (54) were the remaining Tiger scores taken to account for the 197 total. Weston Witt’s 55 and Joe Koso’s 58 were not taken.

The Tigers will compete in the Wymore Invitational tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
