HTRS falls to 0-4, losing skid reaches 13
Humboldt-TR-S fell to 0-4 after suffering a 53-7 loss to visiting Tri-County on Friday night.
The Trojans raced out to a 40-0 behind three rushing touchdowns, a pair of scores through the air and another via an interception return for a TD.
T-C quarterback Wyatt Kowalski scored from 75 yards out to make it 19-0 with 9:26 to play in the first half. That came after the first of his two first-half touchdown passes, a 23-yard throw to Jacob Starkey. Kowalski later found Keldon Barr for a 40-yard TD pass with 1:39 left in the second quarter that made it 40-0.
Most of T-C’s success came on the ground against the Titans, as they piled up 391 yards on 47 carries, which included five rushing touchdowns. Kowlaski led all rushers with 120 yards on eight carries. Ensz rushed for another 105 yards on 14 carries and scored on runs of five and 28 yards.
Nolan Schafer, a sophomore who started his first game at quarterback for HTRS, finished with a team-high 14 carries for 102 yards and one touchdown. He also passed for 84 yards on 11 completions, but was picked off three times and sacked four. Schafer’s 75-yard TD run came with 1:19 left in the third quarter.
Junior Schuyler Kuhlmann, the former quarterback turned wide receiver, caught four passes for 39 yards to lead HTRS. Kuhlmann also led the team defensively with seven solo tackles.
Senior Tony Knudson and junior Jacob Phelps each recorded five solo stops, while Schafer and sophomore Jesse Hickey recorded four and three, respectively.
HTRS has now dropped 13 games in a row dating back to a 34-0 shutout of Wymore Southern in Humboldt on October 27, 2011.
As luck would have it, the Titans travel to Wymore Friday night where they will look to end their current skid against the team they were last victorious against.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday in Wymore between the 0-4 Titans and 1-3 Raiders.
