Layla Gayle Robidoux

 

 

 

Lyla Gayle Robidoux, 90, of White Cloud, died early Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born in Shubert on Jan. 27, 1923, to Carl and Edith Harris Chandler. Lyla grew up in the Shubert and Falls City area, where she attended school. Mrs. Robidoux was baptized in the First Christian Church in Falls City as a young girl.

She married John Robidoux in Falls City. They lived many years in Omaha, where she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Nebraska Furniture Mart.  After her husband’s death on Aug. 11, 1986, she made her home with her daughter Sally until April 2012, when Lyla moved to Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rita Dorste; grandson, Johnny Surber; and a sister, Evelyn Jarvis.

Survivors include her children, Vaughn (Jean) Robidoux, of White Cloud, Donald (Jaynell) Robidoux, of rural Hiawatha, Jim (Judy) Robidoux, of Loveland, CO, Sally Surber, of Hiawatha; son-in-law, Tom Dorste, of rural Falls City; sisters, Doris Odom, of Council Bluffs, IA, Phyllis Chandler, of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Zion Lutheran Church of Hiawatha, with Rev. Michael Dunaway officiating. Inurnment will be at Tesson Cemetery, on the Iowa Reservation near White Cloud.

The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services Saturday at the Church.
