Jane Bryan

Jane Bryan, 80, of Falls City, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Falls City. She was born Nov. 11, 1932, at Rulo to the late William and Ruth (Foster) Smith.

    Jane married Richard D. Bryan June 25, 1950, in Rulo. He passed away Feb. 20, 1995.

    She graduated from the Rulo High School in 1950. Following their marriage, the couple lived in southeast Nebraska and at times throughout the Midwest via bunk car, as Richard worked for Burlington Route. Eventually they settled permanently in Falls City when their children began school and Richard began to work with the State of Nebraska.

    Jane worked part time as housekeeper/cook when her children were young and focused her energy on taking care of her family and home. She began working at Ketter Manor in the l970’s and remained there for more than 20 years until her retirement. Jane and Richard enjoyed camping and spending time with their family. Jane was a nurturer for everyone.

    She was an excellent cook and spent an enormous amount of energy preparing meals and events, which her family enjoyed greatly. Jane was active in all of her children’s activities. She was a member of PTA, serving as President one time.

    She and Richard were very active in the Summer Recreation program and Jane was the first woman to serve at the top. She absolutely loved baseball and would watch Major League Baseball from the first pitch of the year to the last out in the World Series.  

    Jane is survived by her sons, Joe and Bill Bryan, both of Falls City; daughter, Kaye (John) Dingledine, of Adams; grandchildren, Sean Bryan, of Kansas City, MO, Nikki Poppa, of Mound City, MO, Angie Bryan, of Lincoln, Crystal Bryan, of Boston, MA, Holly Dingledine, of Lincoln, and Kellee Bryan, of San Diego, CA; four great-granchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Sr.; son, Richard “Dick” Bryan Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Carol Smith.

    Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 at Steele Cemetery, with Pastor Victor Haworth officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, Falls City.
