Charles B. Jorn

Charles Bernard Jorn, 85, of Verdon, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013 at Omaha. He was born April 4, 1928 at Verdon to the late Boyd and Camille (Schober) Jorn.

On March 1, 1950 he married Shirley Jaros.

Charlie was raised in the Verdon area and graduated from Verdon High School in 1945. Following graduation he farmed on his own. He started Jorn Trucking in the 1960’s. He also did custom corn shelling for area farmers. He started working for the Richardson County Coop in the early ‘70’s. He retired from the coop in 1990. He then owned The Village Craft Shop at Verdon and was a skilled woodworker. He retired from there in 2011.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Verdon Saddle Club and served on the Dawson-Verdon School Board.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Shirley of Verdon; sons, Douglas (Charlene), of Louisville, Rick (Joanie), of Kearney, MO; daughters, Cheryle (Pat) Castle, of Auburn, Cindy DeLong, of Nebraska City; brother, Leon (Bea), of Fremont; sister, Sharon (Leroy) Kelsey, of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Ethan Bazata.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor John Sipf officiating. Interment will be in Verdon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
