JOHN A. KIMES, JR.

John A. Kimes Jr., 85, of York, formerly of Beatrice, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Heritage Crossing Nursing Home in Geneva. He was born April 21, 1929, south of Humboldt.

 

John graduated from Dawson High School in 1947 and then entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict in Okinawa, Japan. After the service he worked as a mechanic in Fairbury and married Joyce Clark on Nov. 25, 1953 at Endicott. They moved to Beatrice in 1958 and worked as a mechanic at Henderson Ford and Burnham Ford, retiring in 1992. He loved his wife and kids and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

John is survived by wife Joyce, of York; sons Jim Kimes and wife Beckie, of Lincoln, and Dave Kimes, of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughter Sue Donahue and friend Randy Howell, of York; six granddaughters and one grandson; five great-grandchildren; sisters Maxine Bell and husband Richard, and Dorothy Forbis and husband Mark, all of California; and sister-in-law Marilyn Zweifel and husband Delbert, of Fairbury.

 

He was preceded in death by parents Irene (Mashaw) and John Kimes Sr.; brothers Gordon and Harlan “Bud” Kimes; sisters Phyllis Prine, Norma Kimes and Betty Larson; and great-granddaughter Taylor Kimes-Sudik.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel, Beatrice, with Pastor Rayl Robbins officiating. Burial will be in the Steele City Cemetery, with military honors by the Army National Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at the Harman-Wright Mortuary from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. A register book is also available online at www.harmanwrightmortuary.com. A memorial is established to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
