Brandt Vice sac fly RBI proves to be game-winner

Brandt Vice provided the eventual game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Falls City Blue Storm Seniors Sunday afternoon as FC defeated the EMN Nationals 2-1 at SNC Field.

Vice’s sacrifice fly to left drove in Lane Scheitel, who doubled to right-center then advanced to third via a single from Wade Witt.

Reese Hogue struck out eight, walked seven and allowed only three hits in five scoreless innings, but   the no-decision. Chase Thompson recorded the win for FC and Scheitel pitched a scoreless seventh for his first save of the season.

Derek Bippes and Tyler Digiacomo had one hit apiece and Thompson scored FC’s first run on an EMN error in the fourth inning.

The Blue Storm were also  scheduled to play Syracuse Sunday evening, but the game was canceled due to inclement weather.

Next up for the Blue Storm (2-0) is a trip to Wathena, KS, tomorrow for games with Doniphan County. The Juniors will play at 6 p.m., followed by the Seniors at approximately 8.

The Blue Storm Juniors were held to one hit and fell to the EMN Nationals 8-1 Sunday at SNC Field.

EMN pulled ahead early with two scored in the first and two in the second.

Jordy Stoller took the loss for FC, despite only giving up two earned runs over five innings with five strikeouts. He walked eight batters and FC committed four fielding errors. Bailey Witt also pitched for the Juniors (2.0 IP, 3R, 2ER, 7BB, 2SO).

Zach Jordening was 1-3 at the plate for FC and Stoller scored the only run for the Juniors, who fell to 1-1 on the season.
