Ellen Lucille (Herr) Pugh

Ellen Lucille (Herr) Pugh, 88, of Humboldt, passed away at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

She was born in Pawnee City on May 26, 1924, the daughter of Ralph and Mayme (Miner) Marshall. She graduated from Pawnee High School in 1941. Ellen attended Peru State College and taught in Pawnee County rural schools. She also worked at Pawnee Telephone Co., Wherry Motors in Pawnee City and at Home State Bank in Humboldt.

On Jan. 3, 1954, Ellen was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Herr and had lived in Humboldt since that time.  After Donald passed away in May 1974, she was married to Carol Eugene Pugh on July 31, 1982.

Ellen was an active member of the United Methodist Church and had served as youth sponsor, Sunday school teacher, member of the Church Board and was active in United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Friends of the Bruun Library and served on the board as secretary and on the membership committee.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Bill) Shorb, Gulfport, MS, and Sharon Hayes, Humboldt; a son, Kevin (Lynne) Herr, Lincoln; her grandchildren; sister, Avis Collar, Pawnee City; step-children, Carin (Vernon) Gerdes, Auburn, Sandy (Steve) Swigert, Emporia, KS, Tim (Helen) Pugh, Peru, Jon (Debra) Pugh, Johnson, Jenni (Willie) DaVila, Virginia; step-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Her parents, husbands, Donald Herr and Carol Pugh, and a step-son, Bob Pugh, preceded Ellen in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 22, at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Jaclyn Hoy officiating. Visitation was Sunday at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt. Interment was at the Humboldt Cemetery.
