More than $18,000 raised at annual Cancer Fund event

The Past Exalted Rulers Association of Falls City Elks Lodge #963 sponsored the 8th annual BBQ and Auction for the benefit of the Richardson County Cancer Fund, Saturday, March 23, at the lodge. To say it was a success would be an understatement. The evening netted more than $18,000 for the Cancer Fund.

As of December 2012, 266 benefits have been paid to cancer patients in Richardson County. The benefits total $100,500. Since Jan. 1 of this year, another seven patients have received benefits bringing the total benefits paid to $104,000.  If you live in Richardson County and have cancer, or know of someone who has cancer, and must travel out of Richardson County for treatment, this benefit is available to you. Forms are available at the out-patient clinic at Community Medical Center, at each of the doctor’s offices in Falls City and in Humboldt, as well as from Tony Brunette at F&M Bank or Peggy Davidson.  There is no income guideline.

It takes a lot of people to put together this event, and I want to thank each of the PER’s for their hard work, and for choosing us as their community project. A big thank you to all our RCCFI board members for their assistance, and to friends I can always count on to help with any project we are involved with. But the biggest thank you goes to the businesses and individuals who donated auction items and to the bidders for going above and beyond on their bids.  Auctioneers Mark Fleskoski, Bob Howard and Steve Milam work really hard to make sure the evening is lots of fun.
