Vernon L. Buckminster


Vernon Leroy Buckminster, 70, of Rulo, passed away March 4, 2018 in Falls City. He was born Sept.10, 1947 in Falls City to Raymond and Virginia Mae (Thompson) Buckminster.

Vernon was raised in Fargo, NE and attended Falls City High School. Vernon served in the Nebraska National Guard and was a member of Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

He married Diana Meinzer in 1968 and they were later divorced. He married Toni Bennett on May 16, 2002 in Falls City. He worked for Sherm Eddie and Ken Morehead as a mechanic then started farming, at one time he farmed over a thousand acres. He then became a Richardson County Deputy Sheriff, then worked security at Cooper Nuclear Station. He was elected Richardson County Sheriff in 2006 and served in that capacity from 2007 until 2011.

He then opened Buck’s Roadhouse south of Falls City and retired in 2013. He had served on the District 56 School Board. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (20th and Towle), Falls City Elks, American Legion Post #102, American Legion Riders and Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Toni of Rulo, sons, Brian and his wife Amy, Blake and his wife Valerie both of Falls City,

step-daughters, Tracy Dlouhy and her husband Marty of Garland, NE, Jenn Uher and her husband Matt of Dewitt, NE, Becky Gossman and her husband David of Falls City, sister, Elaine Craig and her husband Ernest of Falls City, grandchildren, Travis, Marissa, Madison, Lexie and Preston Buckminster, step-grandchildren, Delaney, Krayten and Kynlee Uher, Dawson and Maclayne Dlouhy, Tessa and Conner Gossman, great-grandchildren, Ava and Knox Fee, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:30 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Andrew Chavanak officiating. Military honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
