LOIS ELAINE KOENIG

Lois Elaine Koenig, 91, of Kingwood, TX, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 2, 2016 in Kingwood. Lois was born Aug. 3, 1924 in Atchison, KS. Daughter of the late Eitson DeFrees and Edna Wilson DeFrees.
She had one sister and two brothers. The family moved to Leavenworth, KS when she was a child. After high school, she took classes on secretarial duties and then worked at the federal penitentiary until her marriage to Frank Koenig on May 21, 1950. They established their home in Falls City, Nebraska, where Frank and his brother operated a construction business.  She became the book keeper for the business.  
In 1983, they retired and sold the business. For the next ten years they traveled the country extensively and participated in a Christian volunteer organization, Mobile Missionary Assistance Program, doing construction and repairs for churches and camps.  
In 1994, they acquired a residence in Lake Charles, LA and became active members of St. Luke Simpson UMC where Lois was active in the music ministry and United Methodist Women. After Frank’s death in 2009, Lois moved to Kingwood to be closer to family.  
Lois, is survived by her sister, Ruth Prell of Marcellis, NY; three sons, Neal (Kathy) Koenig of Humble, TX, Kent (Lalo) Koenig of Damascus, OR and Alan Koenig of Albuquerque, NM; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Frank of 58 years, daughter Kay Elaine Koenig, and brothers Walter and Warren DeFrees.
Two memorial services will be held to celebrate Lois’s life. The first will be held at The Foundry United Methodist Church, Houston, TX on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 1pm. The second will be at Consolata Cemetery, Lake Charles, LA, Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Godfrey Hubert and Rev. Lynda Zelenka will officiate.
