Culvert bids accepted; Caverzagie appointed to VA committee

The Richardson County Board, meeting in regular session Tuesday, July 19, approved the award of culvert materials bids for county projects.
Projects included the amounts of $32,540 and $35,836 to Contech Engineering Solutions LLC of Lincoln, and $51,404  to Metal Culverts Inc. of Jefferson City, MO.
During his weekly meeting with Commissioners Dave Sickel, chairman, Jim Standerford and Jim Davidson, Highway Supt. Scott Huppert spoke about a product that is available to patch concrete.  He said he will experiment with the product on Courthouse sidewalks and bridge decks.  Huppert updated the board on progress on the Verdon NW bridge project.
Scott Honan, president, and Lavon Heidemann, business development advisor, representing Nicorp, met with the commissioners to discuss the use of county road right-of-way to install a water discharge line from a mine to the Missouri River.  Plans are still in the development stage and more review is scheduled before an agreement is entered into.
While meeting with Veterans Service Officer Mona Godemann, the board approved the appointment of John Caverzagie to the Veterans Service Committee.  The appointment is for five years, through June 30, 2021.
In other county board news, the commissioners:
— Met with Beckie Cromer, EDGE Director, who presented the organization’s quarterly report.
— Accepted the bid from Midwest Service & Sales Co., Schuyler, in the amount of $29,289.40 for five pieces of rolled beam steel for a bridge project northeast of Humboldt.
— Approved the purchase of software programming for the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office and Jail.  The purchase, from Information Technologies Inc., was for $2,012 in start-up costs with monthly host fees of $896.
—Received a request from Humboldt Shares for county funds for economic development.  The request will be considered as the FY 2016-2017 budget is finalized.
— Reviewed, but took no action, on change orders for the Jail/Law Enforcement Center.
—Reviewed the semi-annual report from the County Treasurer.
—Approved the transfer of $2,500 from the Inheritance Tax Fund to the Employment Security Fund.
—Approved all claims that were submitted.
—Met as a Board of Equalization and finalized property tax valuation protests involving approximately 50 properties in the county.
