Elmer (Gene) Shaw, 86, of Salem died on Sunday, July 26. He was born Sept. 7, 1928 at Salem, to the late Elmer and Rose (Kuperschmidt) Shaw.
He spent most of his life in the Salem area, graduating from Salem high school in 1946. Elmer was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Gene worked in Omaha at Safeway before returning to Salem where he worked for Stalder Cattle Co. for 35 years, until his retirement in 1992.
He married Louise Lock and then Delores Dodge. On June 15, 1971, he married Madeline Larsen at Salem. They enjoyed 44 years together.
Gene enjoyed gardening but loved fishing and was given the nickname “Fishy.” He was an active member of the Humboldt VFW and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline Shaw, of Falls City; daughters, Debra Lebow, of Maryville, MO, Jeannie Boerger, of Lincoln; son, Billie Shaw, of Omaha; step-daughter, Melody (Jimmy) Dodge Stone-Williams of St. Joseph, MO; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Christine Martin; and brother, Kenneth Shaw.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Demmel officiating. Viewing will be held the day of the service.
Interment will be held at Maple Cemetery at Salem with Military honors by the Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.
