FLORENCE ARNOLD

Florence Arnold, 99, of Falls City, died on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Falls City. She was born July 26, 1916 northeast of Falls City to the late George and Bertha (Kammerer) Duerfeldt.
    She attended Cottier School District #21 until the family moved to Barada when she was in the third grade. She graduated from 10th grade at Barada High School in 1932 and continued her education at Falls City High School until grading in 1934. After attending college for one term, she began teaching and taught school for 32 years in rural school districts of Richardson County, and also taught in Humboldt, Falls City and Stella, as well as Reserve, Hamlin and Hiawatha, KS. By attending summer school and taking night courses she earned her degree the same spring their oldest daughter graduated from the eighth grade. She retired from teaching in 1976.
    On April 19, 1947, Florence married F. Normal Arnold at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, northeast of Falls City. When married the couple established their home in rural Falls City.
    She was active in the Barada United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School, was treasurer and church historian, Retired Teacher’s Association, Shubert American Legion Auxiliary, and DAV Chapter 43 of Falls City.
    She is survived by sons, Wayne (Lydia) Arnold, of Lincoln, and Ralph Arnold, of Falls City; daughters; Carol Ann (Dennis) Aleson, of Colorado Springs, CO, Ruth (Kirby) Joy, of Dunbar, NE; sister, Eileen Harrell, of Gretna; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
    Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Juliamae Dunn.
    A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29 at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, Falls City, with Pastor Dennis Aleson officiating. Interment will be held in Harris Cemetery. Open visitation began Monday afternoon.
