Wesley Bennett “Ben” Maze Jr., 70, of Naples, FL (formerly of Falls City), passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2014. He was born Nov. 8, 1944 to the late Wesley “Ben” Sr. and Gertrude (Speers) Maze, both of whom passed away in 2012.
He married Jackie Smith at First United Methodist Church in Falls City on June 20, 1964. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer.
Ben Jr. worked as a business/project developer in Colorado Springs, CO, before retiring to Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family, swimming, and was an avid tennis player. He was a licensed pilot who enjoyed flying all over the country and loved his airplanes.
He graduated from Falls City High School in 1963 and was a key member of the Tigers’ Class B State Basketball Championship Team during the winter of ‘62-’63, having scored more than 17 points per game during the team’s 20-2 campaign. Forty-seven years would pass before FCHS would again eclipse the 20-win mark and make a return to the state tournament.
Ben is survived by his wife, Jackie, of Naples; daughters, Gina Duncan and Jennifer Carta, both of New Braunfels, TX; son, Wesley Bennett “Benji” (Janet) Maze III, of Centennial, CO; grandchildren, Johnny Duncan and Brandon Maze-Garza, and Andrew and Alexis Carta, all of New Braunfels; and Josie Maze, of Centennial; sisters, Janice (Tom) Castle, of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Sonja Brook, of St. Joseph, MO; brothers, Dennis (Melody) Maze, of Philadelphia, TN; Charlie (Betty) Maze, of Hiawatha; and Scott (Karen) Maze, of Falls City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ricky, in infancy.
