‘Wiley’ aids FCPD in arrest

County Sheriff’s Office drug detection dog, recently gave an assist to Falls City Police.

On the evening of Jan. 17, FCPD officer Pat Stamper made a traffic stop near 7th and Lane Streets. Upon speaking with the driver, Levi Campbell, 19, of Falls City, Stamper allegedly smelled marijuana from inside the car. After Campbell refused consent to a search, Stamper requested assistance from the RCSO and Sgt. Lew Barker and “Wiley” responded. “Wiley” alerted and indicated the presence of illegal drugs, which gives authorities probable cause to search a vehicle without consent. Several bags of marijuana were found and Campbell was arrested and charged with possession of drugs with intent to deliver.

Campbell appeared in County Court Monday and plead not guilty to MIP, first offense; possession of K2 or marijuana (less than one ounce; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance (Xanax) and intent to deliver a controlled substance. A pretrial hearing was set for March 5.

“Wiley” was obtained, free of charge, from the FCPD after he had been relinquished by his ‘Wiley’ aids FCPD in arrest former owner. The Sheriff’s Office accepted the dog from the city pound one day before he was scheduled to be euthanized.

“Wiley” is certified as a drug detection dog by the Nebraska State Patrol and Sgt. Barker is a certified drug detection dog handler, as well.
