Fiegener, Dunn honorary captains of D2 All-State football teams

Falls City Sacred Heart senior Jarod Fiegener was named to the Super-State Second-Team defense by LJS and the All-Nebraska Second-Team defense by the OWH. Fiegener, who moved from linebacker to nose guard in 2013, finished with 211 total tackles, 19 sacks and 41 tackles for loss and was the only eight-man player selected to All-Nebraska (OWH) teams. Garrett Poppen, a senior from Giltner, joined Fiegener on the Super-State (LJS) Second Team defense.

Fiegener was joined by fellow seniors Chaz Dunn, Brandon Schawang and Yianni Haralabidis as All-D2 selections by the World Herald, while senior Colin Niemeyer and junior Sawyer Kean joined the those mentioned on the Journal Star’s All-D2 teams.

Fiegener and Dunn were named Honorary Captains by both publications, after leading the Irish to a perfect 13-0 season and Class D2 state championship.

In the other two fall sports, sophomore Maggie Goltz was selected to the Class D2 First Team by the Journal Star in volleyball. Goltz finished the season with 298 kills and helped lead the Lady Irish to the state tournament.

Marian’s Witt All-Nebraska
Omaha Marian sophomore libero Brittany Witt, daughter of Tom Witt, of Falls City, and Tracy (Darnell) Kill, of Omaha, formerly of Stella and a graduate of FC Sacred Heart, was named to the Lincoln Journal Star’s Class A First Team, Omaha World Herald’s All-Nebraska Second Team and All-Metro Conference First Team. She was also named to the Class A All-Tourney Team after helping Marian win the state title in November.
