Maybelle (Shafer) Shefferd, 97, of Albany, Ore., passed away Friday, March 15. The daughter of Raymond and Marie (Junge) Shafer, she was born in Shubert.
She married Ira Shefferd on Jan. 24, 1934, in St. Joseph, Mo.
Maybelle enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble, word searches and bird watching. She collected over 2,000 sets of salt and pepper shakers. She was a great seamstress who made lots of shirts, and crocheted doilies and bedspreads.
She loved company, especially the little ones. Maybelle was the matriarch of a living five generation family, and member of the Prairie Union Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and a past member of the Army Mothers.
Maybelle is survived by her daughters, Marie (Gale) Riley, of Albany, Ore., Carol (Melvin) Daniel, of Denton, Lila Clark, of Albany, Ore., and Nancy (Jerry) Greiner, of Jefferson, Ore.; brother, Darold (Kay) Shafer, of Seward; daughter-in-law, Violette Shefferd, of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ira; sons, Carl and Lyle “Bud”; brothers, Maurice, Dean and Jack Shafer; sisters, Lois and Dorothy; and grandson, Tim Clark.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn. Burial followed at the Prairie Union Cemetery near Shubert. Visitation was Saturday morning at the funeral chapel.
